Mums night out photos!

The mums night our organised by our fab events team, Juliet and Helen was such a success!

8 of us rocked up to Joules for a cocktail making session and we all rolled out a few hours later..!!

We got to shake, layer and muddle our cocktails behind the bar and we got some good tips along the way. The cocktails really were delicious so hopefully this will become an annual event!

Here are a few pics, if you’ve got your own from the night please share with us.

Cocktail Making – NEW DATE for mum’s night out!

We’ve got a NEW date for your diary … the mum’s night out is one not to be missed!

How about trying your hand at cocktail making … and of course sampling a few too?!

On Thursday 5th November we’re heading to Joules in Reigate for a cocktail making evening!

Joules are offering us a very special deal of just £20 per person, which includes learning how to make 3 cocktails behind the bar (a muddled cocktail, a shaken cocktail and a layered shot!). They’ll also lay on a few nibbles.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Joules, it’s a chic and friendly wine bar … and I know they’ll make sure we have lots of fun!

Put the date in your diary and if, like us, you love your cocktails and would like to come along, please let us know! We may need to pay up in advance, if so I’ll be asking for some of your pennies nearer the time.

So, a reminder of the details:

Date: Thursday 5th November

Time: 8pm

Venue: Joules, 85 Bell Street, Reigate RH2 7AN (across from Priory Park)

Cost: £20

Don’t miss it!

Brockham Teas on the Green – THANK YOU!

Thanks so much for all your help and support which made yesterdays Brockham Teas on the Green fundraising event such a success. Between us we managed to put on a very impressive spread and run the afternoon smoothly resulting in lots of happy customers! Despite the bike ride going on, we still managed to raise around £400 profit!

Thanks to everyone who helped us out in so many different ways. Special thanks have to go to Heidi who managed to get out of Dorking by cycling with her 3 children (and cakes!) to Brockham and then worked hard all day!

Brilliant team effort and we had loads of fun!

Fab first aid course!

So we had our East Surrey Twins Club first aid course on Monday night, 12 of us wolfed down our dinners to get to the Subud Hall for this incredibly informative evening!

Adrian from Back2Life was our trainer and he has been practicing and teaching first aid for not far short of 20 years.

Throughout the evening we ran through the basics for choking, resuscitation, recovery positions for babies, toddlers and adults. We also had time for Q&A on other topics such as burns and breaks.

I think everyone got something out of it, even those that have done training before – changes were made in both 2005 and 2010 so there are some differences to guidelines today.

What did we learn? That chest compressions are best done to any of the best 80’s anthems! Staying Alive, as per the advert with Vinnie Jones, is a popular choice! In our training, we were also including mouth-to-mouth breathing. At the end of the day, doing something for someone that is not breathing is better than nothing at all regardless of the situation you find yourself in.

Also something none of us knew – iphones 6 and above have a ‘Health App’ in which you can store all medical records for you and your family. This can be accessed by medical professionals without unlocking your phone so if you or your someone in your family is involved in an emergency situation, it may be of value to the people helping you at that critical time.

The evening was packed full of useful information and if you would like to register your interest for a training evening in the future then please email us at the Club. It was heavily subsidised by our fundraising money, at £10 per head. Email: eastsurreytwinsclub@hotmail.co.uk.

Thanks again for everyone involved in the evening, it was a great success! (Now hopefully we will never have to use it…)

Members First Aid Course

If you didn’t get the email – here are the details of the first aid course from our chair person, Heidi. Be sure to contact her ASAP if you’d like to attend!

As a committee we look for ways to support the needs of the members by offering a broad range of benefits, from subsidy of the weekly TAP group to management of the Nearly New Sales to arranging a calendar of social events and family parties throughout the year.

This year we will be offering a new membership benefit – subsidy of a First Aid course.

On Monday 6th July Back2Life to will be coming to the Subud Hall to run a Paediatric Life Support skills training course for us.

Instead of the usual £30-40 for a course like this, the club will subsidise the course and it will only cost you £10 to attend.

What does the course offer?

The Paediatric Basic Life Support course is designed for anyone who is required to perform paedeatric basic life support competently in an emergency situation prior to the arrival of emergency services.  The important skills of resuscitation and airway management are the focus of this course. All training is by qualified instructors.

What will you Learn?

  • Understanding the chain of survival
  • The principles of initial assessment
  • Management of choking infants and children
  • Effective basic life support for infants and children
  • The appropriate use of resuscitation equipment

Course contents

  • Back slaps, chest and abdominal thrust
  • Recovery position
  • Rescue breathing
  • Cardiac massage
  • Resuscitation equipment

If you are interested please let Heidi know and transfer £10 to the club account (NatWest 54-30-36, account number 39107051) to reserve your place.  We would also like to support grandparents who may look after your twins so please feel free to sign them up too.  However, if we find the course is very oversubscribed we will have to prioritise the mums first (but we will look to run a 2nd course).

I, for one, am very much looking forward to finding how to manage in these life-threatening situations and hope you will find it of benefit too.

Heidi

Volunteers needed!

We are looking for volunteers to host the next round of bumps, babes and kickers coffee mornings.  Usually about 6 mums attend and either have small non mobile twins or are expecting twins (or more!).

If you feel like you can host a coffee morning at your house for a couple of hours, please get in touch – eastsurreytwinsclub@hotmail.co.uk

Thanks for such a fun Easter party!

It was great to see so many of you at the East Surrey Twins Club Easter party on Saturday!

Thank you to all the organisers and helpers that helped make it such a fun afternoon and a huge thank you to Dinky Doodlers for the Easter Art-eggstravaganza..!

We made Easter bunny pictures, played with play dough and coloured rice for the babies, and of course made Easter baskets for the chocolate egg hunt..! Then the kiddies enjoyed tea together whilst the parents managed a glass of wine or two. The afternoon was topped off with a disco and bubbles!

We’ll look forward to seeing you at the next event; we’ve got a mums night out quiz night, fire station visit and family trip to Fishers Farm Park in the near future plus the Nearly New Sale on 11th April – check out events page for more details.

Here are some piccies from the afternoon 🙂
