Fab first aid course!

So we had our East Surrey Twins Club first aid course on Monday night, 12 of us wolfed down our dinners to get to the Subud Hall for this incredibly informative evening!

Adrian from Back2Life was our trainer and he has been practicing and teaching first aid for not far short of 20 years.

Throughout the evening we ran through the basics for choking, resuscitation, recovery positions for babies, toddlers and adults. We also had time for Q&A on other topics such as burns and breaks.

I think everyone got something out of it, even those that have done training before – changes were made in both 2005 and 2010 so there are some differences to guidelines today.

What did we learn? That chest compressions are best done to any of the best 80’s anthems! Staying Alive, as per the advert with Vinnie Jones, is a popular choice! In our training, we were also including mouth-to-mouth breathing. At the end of the day, doing something for someone that is not breathing is better than nothing at all regardless of the situation you find yourself in.

Also something none of us knew – iphones 6 and above have a ‘Health App’ in which you can store all medical records for you and your family. This can be accessed by medical professionals without unlocking your phone so if you or your someone in your family is involved in an emergency situation, it may be of value to the people helping you at that critical time.

The evening was packed full of useful information and if you would like to register your interest for a training evening in the future then please email us at the Club. It was heavily subsidised by our fundraising money, at £10 per head. Email: eastsurreytwinsclub@hotmail.co.uk.

Thanks again for everyone involved in the evening, it was a great success! (Now hopefully we will never have to use it…)

Members First Aid Course

If you didn’t get the email – here are the details of the first aid course from our chair person, Heidi. Be sure to contact her ASAP if you’d like to attend!

As a committee we look for ways to support the needs of the members by offering a broad range of benefits, from subsidy of the weekly TAP group to management of the Nearly New Sales to arranging a calendar of social events and family parties throughout the year.

This year we will be offering a new membership benefit – subsidy of a First Aid course.

On Monday 6th July Back2Life to will be coming to the Subud Hall to run a Paediatric Life Support skills training course for us.

Instead of the usual £30-40 for a course like this, the club will subsidise the course and it will only cost you £10 to attend.

What does the course offer?

The Paediatric Basic Life Support course is designed for anyone who is required to perform paedeatric basic life support competently in an emergency situation prior to the arrival of emergency services.  The important skills of resuscitation and airway management are the focus of this course. All training is by qualified instructors.

What will you Learn?

  • Understanding the chain of survival
  • The principles of initial assessment
  • Management of choking infants and children
  • Effective basic life support for infants and children
  • The appropriate use of resuscitation equipment

Course contents

  • Back slaps, chest and abdominal thrust
  • Recovery position
  • Rescue breathing
  • Cardiac massage
  • Resuscitation equipment

If you are interested please let Heidi know and transfer £10 to the club account (NatWest 54-30-36, account number 39107051) to reserve your place.  We would also like to support grandparents who may look after your twins so please feel free to sign them up too.  However, if we find the course is very oversubscribed we will have to prioritise the mums first (but we will look to run a 2nd course).

I, for one, am very much looking forward to finding how to manage in these life-threatening situations and hope you will find it of benefit too.

Thanks for such a fun Easter party!

It was great to see so many of you at the East Surrey Twins Club Easter party on Saturday!

Thank you to all the organisers and helpers that helped make it such a fun afternoon and a huge thank you to Dinky Doodlers for the Easter Art-eggstravaganza..!

We made Easter bunny pictures, played with play dough and coloured rice for the babies, and of course made Easter baskets for the chocolate egg hunt..! Then the kiddies enjoyed tea together whilst the parents managed a glass of wine or two. The afternoon was topped off with a disco and bubbles!

We’ll look forward to seeing you at the next event; we’ve got a mums night out quiz night, fire station visit and family trip to Fishers Farm Park in the near future plus the Nearly New Sale on 11th April – check out events page for more details.

Here are some piccies from the afternoon 🙂

(If you don’t want your picture here then please email amandabillige@hotmail.com and we’ll remove it right away)

We’re excited to let you know that East Surrey Twins Club have a date to visit Dorking Fire Station! So put Wednesday 27th May at 2pm in your diaries, it’s half term so a great activity to bring your older siblings along to as well.

We’ll meet for a picnic on North Holmwood Green (by the church) from 12 noon beforehand but if you want to just meet us at 2pm at the fire station that’s no problem! (Fingers crossed for good weather!)

Dorking Fire station’s address is: Spook Hill, North Holmwood RH5 4EG

There is no cost but we do ask that if you can make a donation it would be appreciated. All donations will go towards The Fire Fighters Charity.

TAP Spring Clean Wednesday 11th March

This is a reminder that the usual TAP will be closed next week – Wednesday March 11th – as we will be carrying out a very necessary Spring Clean & Sort of everything in the shed.

It would be fantastic if as many mums as possible could volunteer to come along to help with this, preferably without their wee ones, and then we should be able to get it all done in a fairly efficient way.

We’ve hired both halls so for those of you who will still need to bring along kids there will be space for them to play away from the cleaning and mess (in theory!!).

TAP will be free in exchange for as much help as you’re able to give.

We’ll bring along boxes, cleaning products & gloves etc but if you have anything that you’re able to donate (old plastic boxes etc) then it would be very welcome.

Hope to see many of you next Wednesday!

Date for your diary – Nearly New Sale 11th April!

Our next East Surrey Twins Club Nearly New Sale will be Saturday 11th April at Reigate School from 10am – 12noon. As usual there will be a great selection of clothing (going from newborn up to 8 years), a vast number of toys, puzzles and games alongside all the necessary equipment, bedding and shoes.  And of course refreshments to keep you going as you shop.  It is the THE nearly new sale to visit!

This is open to everyone, you don’t have to have multiples to bag a bargain so come along on 11th April at Reigate School and tell your friends about it!

For further information, please email our Nearly New Sale team on eastsurreytwinsclub@hotmail.co.uk or visit out Nearly New Sale page on our website.
